I founded a Nonprofit, Imagination Storybooks, to make children’s illustrated books accessible to blind and deaf children through rich descriptions of the pictures and sign language. I have reviewed close to one thousand self-published illustrated books. When it came to my own book, The Day the Clouds Went Away, a fairy tale about a blind Princess, her guide owl, and her fumbling Wizard, I wanted the best illustrator I could find.
Barbara is simply the best. Not just because she’s a wonderful artist, but because she can capture your vision and give you many great options. When laying out the Princessdom I envisioned, Barbara even built a clay model of the castle! She helped me with my Kickstarter illustrations and was a strong partner, in touch quickly and often. I am looking forward to our future book projects together. Barbara is a fairy tale come true.
Barbara is not only an exceptionally talented artist. She’s a beautiful person to work with. The thoughtful way she approached my book went far and above anything I could have imagined. Not only has she captured and sprinkled magic over each page but she added little personal details too. For example. The Grandfather in the story always has a pencil
on his ear. Most readers won’t even notice. But it’s because my late father loved writing.
So to me, it’s precious.
Barbara honours the writer. She treats the story with so much respect, it comes alive. Anyone who wants their story to become something extra special, full of amazing magical and powerful illustrations. Look no further. My book has come to life. And I’ve made a dear friend. I have lingered over writing this review because quite frankly I do not have the words to express my appreciation and admiration of this artist. I picked Barbara after searching for over a year for the perfect illustrator. I knew from our first communication she was the one. She had an uncanny ability to see my vision of the world i created in my story. We were in sync almost all of the time. This was my first book and my lack of experience with the details was overwhelming. Barbara patiently explained things, walked me through technical issues, recommended other professionals that I had know idea how to find. I felt like I wanted to hug her after each video call or email because she helped stay positive.
The whole experience was extraordinary in every way. I know that I will work with Artistic Soul again and again. I highly recommend it to anyone who is searching for an artist who truly uses all of her senses and soul to achieve an amazing work of art. She is someone who I believe will be critically acclaimed as as an artist, teacher and storyteller for years to come.
Thanks to Barbara, this book was completed and published. I sent a request to Barbara asking her to illustrate a children’s picture book that my husband had written before his death. Barbara very graciously informed me that there were more steps involved in publishing a book than getting it illustrated. I was referred to an editor to have the work edited and also a self publishing online class that I was directed to by Barbara. Barbara did a Top Notch job with my illustrations, book cover design, book interior format and a lot of encouragement. This does not cover the all nighters she spent helping to bring this book to life. I will never be able to repay her for what she put into this project. The animations for my kickstarter campaign, I can go on and on but I will stop here. Thank you is not enough, but I’ve made a friend for life. Her work ethic and professionalism is above and beyond.
Barbara is fantastic to work with - she's creative, hard-working and always goes the extra mile to ensure you're happy with the results. Communicating with Barbara is always fantastic - if I'd like a slight change to an illustration, she's always very understanding, listens carefully and captures my request perfectly.
